HEARING FROM GOD

Ways That God Speaks To Us

In the Bible, Jesus said to His disciples, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:”

— John 10:27

Here are Some Basic Ways that God speaks to you:

God speaks to you through His written Word.

Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”

God speaks to you through His peace.

Philippians 4:7 “And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

God speaks to you through circumstances.

Psalm 119:67 “Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.”

God speaks to you with an audible voice.

Acts 9:4 “And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?”

Though this type of communication is RARE, He will usually do this as a way to prevent you from making a serious mistake or the wrong choice regarding something major going on in your life.

God speaks to you through other people.

2Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost."

This should not be the norm but a rare occurrence also. BE WARY of people who tell you that “they have a Word from the Lord” for you. If it IS from the Lord, it will be EDIFYING, it will LINE UP WITH THE BIBLE, and will be CONFIRMED by the Holy Spirit through His Written Word, and also by others who do NOT know of the aforementioned Word spoken to You. God is NOT an organizer of confusion and will not guide you into doing something that causes anxiety in your spirit. If you are agitated, unsure or unnaturally excited, then it is NOT of God!!!!

There are Scriptures that have literally “popped off the page” as I was reading my Bible and have impacted my life as I was going through different situations. I just LOVE IT when the Holy Spirit gives me a much needed Word in due season!

Here are some of the "BIGGIES":

Luke 8:15  “But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, keep it and bring forth fruit with patience.”

This “Word” came at a time when I had doubts about how the Lord is going to use me since I seem to be in a season of what I perceive to be inactivity for His Kingdom, and also addressed the anxiety of the question of whether or not my loved ones will ever reach out for His salvation. This Word has given me great contentment in knowing that I am right where God wants me to be at this particular point in my life. And that my Loved Ones WILL be Saved.. in God’s Perfect Timing. Oh, and by the way, I was reading my Bible and this verse; particularly the word “patience” literally POPPED off of the page.)

Romans 14:5 “One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.”

This came to me at a time that I was struggling with the issue of Sabbath vs. Sunday vs. every day as being holy.

Proverbs 23:9 “Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.”

The Lord gave me this Scripture as a way to tell me to STOP - in a particular instance while having a heated debate with a friend, who said that they are “well rounded in regards to religion” (but they deny the final authority of the Bible).

Some of the Lesser Ones (but not diminished in importance):

Psalm 84:11 “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly.”

Proverbs 10:31-32 “The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

“The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.”

Acts 13:47-48 “For so hath the Lord commanded us saying, “I have set thee to be a light of the gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

“And when the gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.”  (cf. Ephesians 1:3-14)
